Desirable Path vs Designed Path

要实现有效的跨境交流和合作,有2个关键因素:” url=”” ]Effective communication is a goal of, as well as an approach to, the vision of GP Common.  To achieve better communication in cross-boarder philanthropy, we see  two key issues :[/tooltip]

  • [tooltip content=”一是内容熟悉程度,也就是关于对方国家慈善在何种背景和环境下运作的相关知识;” url=”” ]Content familiarity:  knowledge on how philanthropy works in what context in different countries[/tooltip]
url=”” ]Communication effectiveness: it has 3 variables: language proficiency, cultural awareness and trust level.[/tooltip]

。” url=”” ]There are absolutely experts on either or both dimensions in the philanthropic field. However, we are overall low on both dimensions.  Awareness and trust take time to build, so instead of taking the direct desirable path as shown with the green dashed line, at GP Common, we will take a two-step path: 1) We will first focus on building up subject understanding and encouraging content related communications; at the same time, we will try our best to connect people’s aspirations ( aspiration translates itself, right? ). 2) Then we will put more energy on facilitating connections and collaborations, when people in the community are more acquainted and feel comfortable. This is our designed path .[/tooltip]

Adaptive Path

url=”” ]One major lesson from my learning about global philanthropy is to always check assumptions.  (I explained it in more details in “A Letter from Helen” )  As we embrace inclusion and diversity here, it’s even more important for us not to make assumptions on what people want or need here.[/tooltip]

url=”” ]We’ll adopt the “social trail” concept at GP Common.  Social trail literally means a path developed by erosion caused by footfall or other traffic tools, which is a good indication on people’s desire or activity, and often the most efficient path.[/tooltip]

url=”” ]So at GP Common, we will try to bring in many perspectives, no assumptions, no judgement. Meanwhile we will rely on you to tell us what interests you and what is not irrelevant.  There are many ways for us to interact: social media share buttons on the page; comment after an article; or you can always directly email us.[/tooltip]

url=”” ]Eventually, we hope to see the content here becomes more relevant to you and adds value to you. Together, as a community, we will be able to develop paths that we will all benefit from.[/tooltip]

url=”” ]This is our Adaptive Path to develop GP Common.  This approach would rely on the participation of the community.[/tooltip]
