There seems to be a dilemma: as we dive deeper on the internet, our reading becomes shallower. We seem to take in a lot of information each day, but forget most of it the next day. Information consumption has been fast, shallow and fragmented, day after day.
We understand you may skim a lot at GP Common, but when you do find something interests you here, we invite you to have a Quality 10 minutes, which we call a Q10 Moment. By talking about quality, we mean there is value created – either you have learned something, or you have helped someone else learned something.
Here is what we envision for a Q10 Moment.
Relax. Take a few minutes reading that article. Pause for a minute or two, and take a mental note on how this article is connected with you or with something you know. This “sense making” approach is a key part in personal knowledge management (PKM) . Unfortunately, it is commonly acknowledged but rarely done.
Write a comment if you have something in mind. They don’t have to be perfect or polished, otherwise where can other people “build on”? Commenting is an effective way to organize your own thought and to spark ideas. We encourage you to do so, not only for others, but also for yourself.
Finally, if you do like that article, use social media buttons on the left to share it. You become a good resource for other people when you share. Of course, we appreciate our work being acknowledged, and more importantly, we consider this sharing as a great way to tell us what you think is relevant. If you don’t like it, and see room for us to improve, please let us know.
The whole process should take no more than 10 minutes.
Within the 10 minutes, you will have done something good for you, for fellow readers, and for us. That’s a time you shine a light.
Here is what we are going to do to help you have a good Q10 Moment at GP Common:
- We aim for posts in bite size: most of them will have 500-1000 words. (Occasionally, we will have longer articles too. )
- We will make it easy for you to navigate around the site and restrict bells and whistles to the minimal.
- The site adopts responsive design, so you’ll have a good reading experience on your mobile devices.
- Yes, we do listen.
[space]Enjoy!
