Two volunteers may be happy to share a role but unsure who handles the next request. A small division of responsibility can prevent the arrangement from becoming a daily guessing game.
Split the actual work
List the recurring actions instead of dividing an impressive job title. One person might answer room enquiries while another maintains the equipment list. For tasks they share, agree how a new item gets claimed and where that claim is visible.
Add a simple absence arrangement. “Ask the other person” is useful only if both have agreed to cover that kind of decision. Keep unusual requests with the appropriate organiser.
Try the arrangement for one event
Afterward, ask where requests waited or reached both people. Change the division around those examples rather than judging which volunteer appeared busier.
A written role split can fit on half a page: work area, normal contact, cover arrangement and review date. Share it with the people who need to use it. The goal is to make volunteering easier to enter and sustain, while leaving room for the two people to learn what works together.
